Meet Emily Satel, a therapist in South Austin
I help thoughtful, capable adults who are quietly tired of holding it all together find their way back to feeling like themselves.
Therapist. Backpacker. Festival-goer. Professional rabbit-hole explorer.
If you've ever thought, "I know why I do this... so why do I keep doing it?" you're not alone. Many of the people I work with have already spent years trying to understand themselves. They've read the books, listened to the podcasts, or even been to therapy before. They're not lacking insight; they're looking for therapy that helps that insight become something they can actually live. I believe insight is valuable, but meaningful change happens when the mind and body have a new experience of themselves.
I don't believe you're broken. I believe your mind and body adapted in remarkably intelligent ways to help you survive. Together, we'll work to understand those adaptations, appreciate how they once protected you, and gently create more flexibility where they're no longer serving you. My goal isn't to help you become someone else. It's to help you relate to yourself with greater curiosity, compassion, and choice.
When I'm not working, you'll probably find me outdoors, dancing to live music, getting lost in an epic fantasy novel, or enthusiastically diving into whatever ADHD hyperfixation has captured my attention this month.
How I work
My approach is collaborative, relational, and tailored to the individual rather than following a rigid formula. I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic and body-based approaches, attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), drawing from each in ways that fit your unique needs and goals. Early sessions are about getting to know each other and feeling out how we work together, not telling your whole story at once.
I work with adults navigating trauma, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, dissociation, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Some clients also explore ketamine-assisted psychotherapy or psychedelic integration as part of our work together, both offered to established clients. Many don't, and work with me through talk therapy alone. There's no single right way in.
As Director of Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Services at Transcend Health Solutions, I provided more than 4,000 hours of direct ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, supervised clinical quality, trained therapists, and consulted on other therapists’ KAP cases.
